The synthesis route of androstenedione to testosterone is usually done in the following two ways:
Route 1: 3-position selective etherification followed by reduction with sodium borohydride or potassium borohydride, and then hydrolysis with acid;
Route 2: Reduction with sodium borohydride or potassium borohydride to produce a mixture of testosterone and diol, followed by selective oxidation with active MnO2 to produce testosterone.
