Description

Tirzepatide is a novel, once weekly, dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist and is under development for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity.

Tirzepatide is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide-GLP-1 receptor agonist. Its structure is primarily based on the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide amino acid sequence and includes a C20 fatty diacid moiety. Its half-life of approximately 5 days allows once-weekly subcutaneous administration. A phase 2b trial involving patients with type 2 diabetes showed that those who received tirzepatide had dose-dependent reductions in the glycated hemoglobin level and weight at 26 weeks.

How Tirzepatide Works?

Eli Lilly and Company's tirzepatide works by activating both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors in your body. This prompts the body to release insulin from your pancreas that blocks glucagon, a hormone that increases blood sugar levels. As a result, your blood sugar levels can be controlled effectively, especially after a meal. In addition, tirzepatide affects certain chemicals in the brain which in turn decreases appetite, increases energy expenditure, and prevents ectopic fat deposition (abnormal fat accumulation in body parts that normally contains small amounts of fat). These effects result in significant weight reductions.

How Does Tirzepatide Work?

Tirzepatide acts in the following ways:

● Delays how quickly our stomachs digest food. Leading to a feeling of fullness and satisfaction with smaller meal sizes.

● Slows intestinal motility so you will feel fuller longer after meals.

● Dual action receptor allows for lower blood sugars, in part by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.

● Stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas.

● GIP increases energy expenditure, resulting in weight loss reductions.

How is Tirzepatide supplied and given?

Tirzepatide is given similar to Semaglutide. We will supply you with pre-filled syringes. Our Tirzepatide also contains B12 in each dose that has been shown to help alleviate nausea that can be associated with these types of medications. There is no need to measure your medication as it is ready to go when we give it to you! The injection needs to be given on the same day each week and can be taken with or without food. Tirzepatide is typically given in your abdomen, upper arm, or thigh. It is recommended to change injection sites with each dose.
